To: PPS Preparers and Reviewers
As you know, the University has adopted a furlough/salary reduction plan for UC employees. (Please see the previous PPS listserv announcement sent earlier today for details.) UCOP has been developing programming to implement the furlough/salary reduction into PPS. We anticipate running it for our campus early next week. The program will enter additional distribution lines to establish the pay reduction for affected employees. This will be very similar to how START distributions are set up--the additional distribution line will produce the pay reduction while the employee's REG and stipend distribution lines remain intact.
Since this initial implementation will be done via system programming, departments do not need to enter furlough/salary reduction data into PPS at this time. Departments should review the data once it has been put into place, and will need to do input for actions throughout the year, including new hires, changes in title, and the furlough exchange program. Instructions for these and other actions will be given at the workshops and placed on the furlough/salary reduction plan website as soon as possible.
For now we ask that department observe a PPS freeze for all employees starting at 5:00 pm Tuesday, September 8. The freeze should only last a few days and we will let you know when it has been lifted.
We apologize for the late notice on this freeze. Thank you for your patience!
