RE: Update on the Voluntary Separation Option (VSO)

As announced in a memo to the campus on August 3, 2009, the University has launched the Voluntary Separation Option (VSO) program. This program will enable the campus to realize salary savings while awarding eligible and interested employees a severance payment for ending their university employment.

At the time of the program's launch, only certain groups of employees were eligible to participate in VSO. Since that time UC has received agreement from some additional unions that employees in their bargaining units can participate. As of this writing, the following groups are eligible to participate in VSO:

Staff (non-probationary career appointments, PSS and MSP):
-Non-represented (99)
-Represented:
CX - Clerical
TX - Technical
RX - Research Support Professionals
HX - Health Care Professionals

Human Resources will notify the campus as soon as possible with regards to VSO program participation for other represented employees.

Human Resources will be presenting an information workshop on the VSO program on Monday, August 10th, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, HR Learning Center, 3101 SAASB.

In addition, there will be a retirement information workshop on Tuesday, August 11th, from 3 pm to 4 pm, in the HR Learning Center, for employees who also wish to retire after the VSO separation date of October 30, 2009.

Complete details about the VSO program are available at http://hr.ucsb.edu/budget/Voluntary_Separation_Option.php
