RE: PPS Training - Spring 2008
Payroll/Personnel System (PPS) Training has been scheduled for Spring 2008. This series of classes will begin on Friday, April 11. PPS training is mandatory for those who prepare and/or review personnel transactions and payroll time reporting transactions on-line.
The schedule of classes, enrollment form and access request form are available on the web at:
http://hr.ucsb.edu/hris/pps_training.php
To attend PPS training, participants need to submit an "Enrollment Request Form" to HR Training. If they are attending PPS classes for the first time or changing their access (e.g., moving from one department to another), participants need to submit a "Request for PPS Access Form" to the Accounting office prior to enrollment.
Classes are presented in the following order ("*" denotes core class):
1. * Staff Policy - Overview of staff personnel policies.
2. * Staff Data - Introduction to the Employee DataBase (EDB) portion of PPS, focusing on staff data and transactions.
3. Academic Data - Focus on academic data and transactions in the EDB. Required for PPS users who process academic transactions.
4. * Data Navigation & Accountability (DNA) - PPS navigation and personal accountability in using PPS.
5. Introduction to On-line PPS - Hands-on instruction on how to navigate the various PPS menus, select bundles, find individual screens and use function keys. Note that this lab is optional, but recommended for students looking for a more detailed introduction to PPS navigation prior to taking the EDB Update Lab.
6. * Employee Database (EDB) Update Lab - Hands-on instruction for entry/update processing in the EDB.
7. On-Line Time Reporting Lab - Hands-on instruction for online time reporting. Required for PPS users who report time online.
Participants are granted regular PPS access upon attending all of the 4 core classes (Staff Policy, Staff Data, DNA and EDB Update Lab) and completing the EDB Update Lab homework exercises.
In addition there are 3 classes which target specific needs. The Academic Data class is required for preparers and reviewers who process academic personnel transactions in the EDB. The Introduction to On-line PPS lab is optional and designed specifically for employees new to campus or unfamiliar with the Personnel Payroll System. The On-Line Time Reporting lab is required for preparers and reviewers responsible for online time reporting.
