Most career employees serve a probationary period during their first
six months of employment. If you are unsure about the probationary
period for a new career employee, please contact the Employment
recruiter who assisted you with the recruitment.
The probationary period is intended to give managers & supervisors
an opportunity to review the ability of this new employee to perform
all aspects of the position.
If a concern arises involving performance,
attendance or conduct during this probationary period, managers
& supervisors are encouraged to contact Employee & Labor Relations
to discuss options. An employee should receive timely feedback on
any problems with performance, attendance or conduct that are a
cause for concern.
If a probationary employee continues to have problems after receiving
feedback, please contact us to discuss options, e.g., probationary
period extension or release of the employee. Managers & supervisors
are required to consult with Employee & Labor Relations prior
to extending a probationary period or releasing an employee during
his or her probationary period.
