UCSB Local Personnel Policies for Staff Members

Introduction
This manual contains the UCSB Local Policies created in response to the delegations of authority granted to the Campus under the Human Resource Management Initiatives (HRMI). These policies, effective June 1, 1997, serve as an adjunct to the system-wide Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM) issued by the Office of the President, June 1, 1996. Together, PPSM and these Local Policies form the complete set of personnel policies for unrepresented employees at the UCSB campus. These policies should be consulted in conjunction with PPSM to resolve all staff personnel issues.

The Local Policies were written by committed staff at UCSB over a three year period. During that time they were made available to all staff for review and comment before receiving approval for implementation by the Senior Officers. These policies then are the result of a collective effort by staff to develop personnel guidelines in the best interests of UCSB. We hope the campus community will be well served by them. They were written with the intention to provide flexibility to departments, to simplify procedural language and to facilitate the work of all University staff.

As public sector employees, UCSB staff are considered to be employed by statute. The provisions contained in PPSM and in these implementing policies and procedures are designed to inform employees about the expectations and entitlements of the University with regard to their employment. The University by authority of the Chancellor reserves the right to amend, modify or delete these policies at any time and they supersede all previous University staff personnel policies.

We hope you will take time to consult these policies. Should you have questions or comments, please call the Human Resources Office.

Thank you.
