Vocational Rehabilitation Services

The Vocational Rehabilitation Program at UCSB is committed to assisting faculty and staff with work-related or non-industrial disabilities return to work as soon as medically appropriate. Through early intervention, the goal is to return employees to work as soon as medically possible and obtain reasonable accommodations when medical restrictions apply. This program assists with reasonable accommodations for disability related limitations which temporarily or permanently restrict the employee’s ability to do their job. The Vocational Rehabilitation Program provides services mandated by federal and state laws, UC Policies and Procedures.

Eligibility:

Any UCSB employee with a documented medical condition or disability which interferes with the ability to perform his/her job. The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor will work with you and your supervisor to develop a plan to meet your needs.

California Fair Employment & Housing Act/Americans With Disability Act (ADA)

The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the California Fair Employment & Housing Act (FEHA) are Federal and State laws that prohibit discrimination against employees or potential employees with disabilities in the terms and conditions of employment.

The University provides equal opportunity in employing qualified individuals with disabilities and reasonable accommodations in order to hire or retain individuals with disabilities. Applicants and disabled employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Transitional Work Program (TWP)

A Transitional Work Program (TWP) has been developed for employees who are losing time from work due to Workers’ Compensation injuries. Transitional work is modified or alternate work assigned to an employee who has temporary work restrictions.

This temporary modified work which can require job restructuring, modified work schedules, and temporary re-assignment must be consistent with the medical restrictions prescribed by the treating physician. Upon notice of temporary modified duties, the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor will meet with employee and supervisor to discuss parameters of program.
