Disability Insurance Administered by Liberty Mutual

Liberty Mutual Summary Plan Description Booklets:

UC sponsored insurance which provides basic benefits to eligible employees unable to work due to a pregnancy or a non-work-related disabling injury or illness. The plan pays 55% of your eligible earnings up to $800 a month for up to six months following a waiting period.

Employee paid insurance which provides benefits to eligible employees unable to work due to a pregnancy or disabling injury or illness.  Supplemental Disability and Short-Term Disability Plan benefits, combined with other sources of income(if applicable), pay 70% of your eligible earnings up to $10,000 a month for up to 12 months.

Waiting Period

A period of consecutive days of Total or Partial Disability for which no benefit is payable.   The waiting periods are 7 day, 30 day, 90 day and 180 day.  The period for which a benefit is payable will begin on the later of the completion of the waiting period or the exhaustion of accrued sick leave up to 22 working days.

The Short-term and Supplemental Disability plans allow eligible employees to stay at work or return to work on a part-time basis while still receiving partial disability benefits.

Liberty Mutual and a Work-Incurred Injury

At the point that you are no longer receiving pay from the University, you may be entitled to Supplemental Disability payments from Liberty Mutual.
